Well the error message I got was "FileNotFoundException can't be thrown out" which I just found out is to be ignored since we can assume that the file already exists.

well for safety's sake of testing, why not enter the full file path when you're prompted to input it... (not in the java file mind you, just when you run the program and it asks you for a file)
e.g.
c:/stuff/more stuff/even more stuff/etc/crap.txt
it should work, if your file works...

;D I tried that and it works.
YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW:
For those of u that want another option for an IDE, try Forte. Both Forte and JBuilder have this little nice function that shows all of java's methods and classes (provided that u know the hierarchy of the objects)

no problemo... the file name is user defined... that is, the user enters a file name to read from (and for L7, a file name to output to)
(yuck... another input java file... aren't you sick of 'em?)
markers will have their own files, and they'll define it so don't hand in any text files

so we have to create a bufferedreader to allow the user to type in the file name and then read out everyline of that txt file??? anyway if anyone wants a better java making kit, i have a program called Forte Java as stated previous, it comes with the book Core Java 2, so if anyone wants it just ask gundamf91 (borrow of course)

Well, everyone can ignore my "errors"! Apparently, all of them are somehow CW's cruel way of reminding me to pay up. Hardly 5 mins in the CDF and voila it's working.

so we have to create a bufferedreader to allow the user to type in the file name and then read out everyline of that txt file??? yip... but here's a question: for those people who put it in same folder as the assignment folder, did you still have to put in the whole file path so the program works? i'm worried if it does or doesn't, the autotester will screw up
