Why the frell are you in CSC? When I was a kid my first experience with a computer was at my cousin's house. He was playing Street Fighter II and pool. So basically I thought a PC was a giant gaming system. So naturally I bugged my parents to get me one. Well, ten years later I finally got one. :| Anyways, when I first took Computer Science in high school I knew I had to do this for the rest of my life...either that, or Accounting. It was so frelling easy at the time and I was told this was how they made videogames. So ever since then I knew I wanted to be a Computer Scientist. So my videogame addiction, which is worse than heroin, is the reason why I'm in Computer Science because I never would have taken that course in high school if I wasn't so interested in computers/videogames in the first place. So thank you, Nintendo and Sony, for if you had never entered my life I would have been taking Accounting right now. And thanks to my cousin for talking about that cool new OS he had, Windows I believe is what he called it, which allowed us to play Arkanoid and Street Fighter.

For me.. it dates back with my uncle always teaching me how to use computers and drill me through it.. he'd tell me what to do and stuff.. which was basically running applications from a Comador 64 and the machines after... Comptuers has always been something easy for me ... I've been always a good problem solver.. but computers isn't what I wanted to get into... I originally was enrolled at UofT in Architecture... But I left that and went into Computer Science just because Architecture became too boring for me (I like building things.. not studying history)... Computer Programming I can do... It doesn't require me as much to read 9142089048 pages of a textbook then blurb it out on a page... only to forget it a week later... My memory is pretty good.. but going that way is just too boring... Since I'm a pretty fast learning.. Learning Java after Turing wen't pretty good.... But quite honestly I couldn't stand being in strict computers... so I chose someting more diverse.. which was HCI (Human-Computer Interactions)... now that stuff is interesting... It's also less math and less programming But as a warning, first year I found was really easy and stuff... second year.. boy... it's pretty rough.... I program pretty fast... I generally finish my stuff in about 50 - 70% of the time it took my friends to finish their work.. but still... it's a LOT of work (Assignment 1 for 209 for me was around 600 lines of coding)... and escpecially if you get crazy like me and take 4 comptuer science courses all at one time (CSC: 228,209,258,324). And considering i'm really LAZY... (Hey going out and having FUN is more enjoyable than opening up a book and studying.... ) I'm just barely getting enough sleep now a days

For those of you that are very slow: CSC = Computer Science. Let the posting begin!

CS = counter strike!
I like to use the MP5!
j/k.. I came to UT for Actuarial Science. CSC108 got me interested in the feild of computer programming. Now CSC148 is discouraging me.
I think I will just stick to Act Sci instead.
Computer is: 1)Difficult 2)Boring 3)You get paid the same as everyone else in mangerial position
If I ever go into Computer, I would NOT want to touch any of these java sheit anymore.

Like Bahamut, my first experience with a computer was also as a kid. Instead of the actual PC, I played around with the Japanese version of the Nintendo Family Entertainment System (For those of u who don't know what I'm talking about, the box with the red and white colours on it). How could I not? There was a disk drive on it. Thinking back, it was kick-ass playing 3-4 versions of Mario, all different.
With the arrival of my 386 loaded with Windows 3.1, the interest in computers came along with it. Not only was I interested in Minesweeper, I also liked screwing around with the autoexec.bat and command.com files. BAD IDEA!
Finally, high school brought two more computer related interests: gaming and programming. And from then on, the only think in my mind after HS was comp. sci.
BTW, I wonder what happened to my pic on the left?

like blade_hunter and bahamut, i'm a gaming guy too. I'm just not a minesweeper guy. I also wanted to expand my horizons but boy, did that backfire.
Anyway, those famicom systems were the best!!! mario bros. 2 ("the lost levels" in North America) was tough! Anyone know the name of that mario game where you had mario and luigi face off against each other and there were these crabs and turtles coming out of pipes on the top of the screen? (and there was that POW box in the lower middle area that you just love to hit...)

The game was simply known as Mario Bros..

heh heh... a classic...
And since I already asked an old game question, does anyone remember the first baseball game to come out for the famicom? ("originally called 'baseball'")... you could choose teams that had letters for names...
the best part was my patented curveball... no one could actually figure out how it was done... ;D

I thought my reason for being here would be unique but turns out it's the same as basically everyone elses. I spend most of my leisure time playing games (which isn't much anymore) and I've been playing video games since my dad's Atari 2600 (he had Pac Man and Space Invaders). You're all familiar with games so suffice it to say, I went through the various 'ages' with NES, GB, MegaDrive, SNES, PS, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, PS2. However I don't know the answer to your question Blues, I'm into just about every genre except sports games.
When I got accepted last year I was so happy, I thought that I would get to make games for sure. In the last year I've found out how premature it was of me to think that ;D I didn't think getting into the comp.sci program would be such a difficult task but it's looking dangerous with all the hell from MAT137 and after looking at the solutions page for the CSC148 midterm I'm not too confident on that either. I get my midterm back next week...

tell me csc148 is as hard as it gets... i think this course is about the extent of my capacity... i mean, if i really tried, i probably can push myself harder, but i do have other courses...
