on pp 47-49 of the lecture slides, it shows e.member versus e.variable versus e.method so variable and method are both members, right (kinda like variable and method are subclasses of member)?? what is the difference b/w the e.variable lookup algorithm and the e.method lookup algorithm? for e.variable, it doesn't have the second rule for reference of type T... why? what makes the function of a variable so different from a method that the lookup algorithms should be different?

Slide 45 - it says something about finding the bottom-most occurence of the method if it's public has got something to do with making sure you get the certain one incase it's been overridden, whereas with variables they could only be overshadowed.
